Louisiana for Lifeline

A Hand Up for Seniors & Vets

Imagine trying to get a job and land back on your feet without a phone. Lifeline provides phone access to Americans who cannot otherwise afford it. The non-partisan program began under the Reagan administration and expanded during the presidency of George W. Bush. Unfortunately, the program had come under attack by a small, yet vocal set of politically-motivated individuals.

Ragusa helped Lifeline and General Wesley Clark, U.S Army, retired, advocate for the 364,000 people who depend on Lifeline in Louisiana, which includes some 156,000 seniors and 36,000 U.S. veterans. Through a series of roundtables, statewide media tours, and opinion editorials, Lifeline staved off unfounded attacks and demonstrated the value it brings to Americans.
